This multiplier event aimed to bring together both language teachers with an interest in digital language learning and LSP, alongside experts in the field of e-learning (not confined to modern languages teaching – e.g. “EU Digital learning centre”, Digital Learning and ICT group from the European Commission, EESC, COR) for a two-day skills-sharing/colloquium event, with keynote speakers from institutions at the forefront of research and development in this area of expertise.

The two-day colloquium/workshop was jointly coordinated with the LSP/LAP teaching centre at the ULB (“ULB Langues”) while also drawing on the experience of the Tradital research centre which is based in the Language, Translation and Communications Faculty at the ULB. The event actively targeted at LSP/LAP teachers based in Belgium (neighbouring universities such as Liège, Ghent, Leuven, and secondary-school language teachers, etc.) and from universities abroad, especially those with which the ULB has privileged partnerships.
Apart from the extensive exchange of knowledge and expertise, the event served as a launch pad for the tools developed by the Strategic partnership and was an opportunity to gather invaluable feedback directly from target users. All the participants received an access to materials created by the partnership, were introduced to the idea and possibilities of their use. Apart form that, they were accustomed with the teacher booklet in the form of an e-book (O2) that can be found on the project website.
The main conclusions and takeaways of the conference overlap with the principles of the LSP4Emp project. The intensive collaboration between business and HEI LSP teachers, the need to improve digital literacy among teachers and lecturers, distant learning/teaching and changing demands of new generations of students need to be investigated and taken into consideration when designing language education at HEI. Thus the materials created by the project team perfectly fit the needs of both teachers and students.

Two-day conference at the Université libre de Bruxelles

CONTEXT
The modern labour market is increasingly challenging, demanding,
unpredictable and skill-intensive. Higher education institutions
(HEIs) are expected to prepare graduates for the world of work.
Knowledge of foreign languages is now viewed as a form of human
capital that enhances an employee’s performance and productivity
in the workplace and, hence, contributes to value creation for
an employer. LSP [Language for specific purposes] courses are
frequently aimed at teaching the language connected to students’
field of study. However, the needs of future employers need to be
taken into consideration as well.
The aim of the conference on LSP4Employability: Language Skills for Employable Graduates is to bring the project results to the public and key end-users, as well as to build on the project concepts, add value to its mission, and multiply its outputs.
There is no registration fee to participate in the conference.
THE CONFERENCE
This conference targets and aims to bring together language teachers working in universities and continuing education institutions around Europe and beyond who have an interest in LSP through e-learning along with other graduate-employment stakeholders for a two-day event featuring:
- themed sessions;
- keynote speakers;
- panel discussions with partners.
ABSTRACTS ARE INVITED
Please submit an abstract of 150-200 words on any of the following topics (not exhaustive)
- E-learning of languages (CALL and related methods)
- Languages and employability
- LSP for graduates
- Cross-cultural and intercultural awareness/communication
in the workplace - Facilitating graduate employment

- LSP by distance learning
